European Commission - Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW)

This conference is organised by the Unit F2 for Advanced technologies, Clusters and Social economy of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW) in collaboration with the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

DG GROW supports the building of bridges across Europe’s eco-systems through 50 European Cluster Partnerships under the COSME and Horizon2020 programmes that use clusters as multipliers to support SMEs. These include:

  • INNOSUP-1 cluster projects for new industrial value chains (under Horizon2020);
  • European Strategic Cluster Partnerships for going international (ESCP-4i);
  • European Strategic Cluster Partnerships for smart specialisation investments (ESCP-S3); and
  • European Strategic Cluster Partnerships for Excellence (ESCP-4x) under COSME.

This partnering is supported by the European Cluster Collaboration Platform and the European Observatory for Clusters and Industrial Change.

European Cluster Collaboration Platform

The European Cluster Collaboration Platform (ECCP) is the leading hub for cluster collaboration across Europe and beyond. It boosts the connections and partnering of enterprises via nearly 1000 cluster organisations registered at the Platform. They reach out to over 100.000 SMEs, some 8.000 large firms and 11.000 universities/research organisations.

The platform provides a dynamic mapping of clusters and cluster organisations, a partner search facility and offers information about the EU cluster initiatives and related European Cluster Partnerships and networks. It communicates about cluster-related news, international matchmaking events, conferences, open calls etc. More information about the ECCP and cluster related events is available on the platform.

European Observatory for Clusters and Industrial Change

The European Observatory for Clusters and Industrial Change (#EOCIC) is an initiative of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs. The Observatory provides a single access point for statistical information, analysis and mapping of clusters and cluster policy in Europe, aimed at European, national, regional and local policy-makers, as well as cluster managers and representatives of SME intermediaries.

The aim of the Observatory is to help Europe's regions and countries design better and more evidence‐based cluster policies and initiatives. More information about the European Observatory for Clusters and Industrial Change is available here.
